Retention basin
Our ‘wild corner’ with large boulders, old railway sleepers, deadwood, grasses, herbs, shrubs and trees – a haven for caterpillars, butterflies, lizards and so on.
Deadwood area
A deadwood area has been combined with a pile of stones. These areas provide an ideal habitat for numerous small and microscopic organisms.
Water feature
The water feature is home to water-loving plants and amphibi
ans. It is also a popular source of water for insects and has a calming effect on us humans, true to the saying: ‘Water – the source of life’.
Fruit orchard
A traditional orchard has been planted with old varieties of wild and table fruit trees. It also features perennial beds for bees, bumblebees and butterflies.
Medicinal Plant Educational Garden
Designed in true style to resemble a large ‘PlantaVet leaf’, here we find over 40 different medicinal plants in 13 beds, lovingly walled in by hand using recycled, historic natural stone (sandstone). Many of the herbs that grow and thrive here form the basis of our products.
Courtyard
The courtyard has been landscaped with a fruit tree, a hazel bush, perennial beds and a snack garden for staff.

Insect hotel
A home for many different insects; particularly effective when combined with a wildflower meadow, deadwood and a pile of stones.
Stone walls
All the flowerbeds are bordered by a stone wall. As insects and lizards love stone walls built without mortar, the walls were constructed using recycled stones from the quarry near Tübingen (www.natursteinpark.de)
Outdoor lighting
At night, light pollution is kept to a minimum by motion detectors and light sources that only shine downwards.
Compost
An active part of the nutrient cycle in which organic matter is broken down by numerous soil organisms.
Green Roof
Once construction work on the logistics building had been completed, we sowed a special seed mixture suitable for green roofs across an area of 3,500 square metres. The roofs of the new administration building and the cycle shed were also turned into green spaces in 2020, and the terrace on the first floor delights staff with a colourful strip of flowers.
